Fort Lauderdale Therapy for Addiction

Individual and Group Therapy for Addiction

All Legacy Healing Center locations offer multidimensional levels of addiction care to ensure that we can help people in all stages of addiction. When treatment options are limited, our ability to help others is limited, as well. With that said, treatment plans vary greatly depending on the client’s needs, the substance they’re addicted to, their mental health, and other factors. Offered in our substance-specific care are psychotherapy services that address behavioral and psychological factors of recovery. Keep reading to learn what our Fort Lauderdale therapy for addiction has to offer.

Behavioral therapy approaches to treating addiction help clients remain abstinent, modify their attitudes, and increase their life skills to better manage stressful and tempting situations in recovery. Below are the various types of psychotherapy for addiction we offer at our Fort Lauderdale therapy center to help our patients learn how to live sober lifestyles

Psychodynamic Therapy

We offer various types of psychodynamic therapy approaches that involve the facilitation of a deeper understanding of one’s emotions and other cognitive processes. Psychodynamic therapy works to help people better understand how they feel, think, and behave. A major factor in recovering from addiction is understanding the motivation behind one’s actions, which is why therapy is so important.

Rapid Resolution Therapy

Rapid resolution therapy (RRT) is another form of individual therapy for addiction offered at our Fort Lauderdale rehab. It’s designed to help patients overcome the ongoing effects of traumatic experiences. RRT uses techniques such as guided imagery, hypnosis, and stories to help clients resolve troubling thoughts, emotions, and behaviors related to their substance use disorders.

Family Therapy For Addiction

In addition to our client-specific Fort Lauderdale therapy for addiction, our facility also offers support for families of addicts. We understand that spouses, siblings, and parents are also impacted when a loved one develops a drug or alcohol use disorder. In response, members may adopt certain roles to cope with this behavior, causing their relationships with the individual to suffer. Because having strong relationships in recovery is important – and because addiction is a family disease – our facility offers family therapy services.

Trauma Therapy

Otherwise referred to as trauma-focused therapy, trauma therapy is a specific form of psychodynamic therapy that recognizes and highlights understanding the impact of a traumatic experience on one’s mental, behavioral, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. This form of therapy is rooted in comprehending the link between trauma and one’s behavioral and emotional responses and learning how to cope with reminders, flashbacks, and other effects of trauma appropriately.

Brain Paint & Vibroacoustic Therapy

Brain paint therapy or brain painting is a form of neurofeedback therapy that uses biofeedback. It’s designed to improve brain functioning without using a brain map. This is a non-invasive therapy where sensors are attached to the patient’s scalp and then answer a series of questions. The technician then detects the brain’s response to certain stimuli or questions. This allows patients to see which areas of their brain aren’t working properly and allow them to correct them and achieve stability.

Vibroacoustic therapy, or VAT, is a deep tissue low-frequency sound massage that transmits audio waves in the range of 30Hz-120 Hz through embedded transducers in the bed. The sound gently penetrates cells in the body, massaging them from the inside out. Through the 60% of water in the body, the sound is transmitted and vibrated to produce a relaxing effect.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a psychological approach that incorporates analyzing strategies used by successful individuals and applying them to one’s treatment plan to achieve a personal goal. NLP relates to thoughts, language, and behavioral patterns that were learned through experience to achieve specific outcomes. People who practice NLP analyze their own perspectives and compare them to others to create an overview of a particular situation. By understanding these various perspectives, the NLP user gains information and can address different situations accordingly.

12-Step Facilitation

Our Fort Lauderdale addiction treatment center also offers twelve-step facilitation therapy to treat drug and alcohol use disorders. This is a common form of addiction treatment that was created by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and has since been adapted to treat individuals with all forms of substance use disorders.

The 12-step programs recognize that addiction can have physical, emotional, social, and spiritual consequences that must all be addressed. This form of therapy begins with acceptance, then moves to surrender to a higher power, then eventually transitions to group meetings. These meetings are meant to provide clients with a safe place for discussion and mutual support.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychodynamic therapy that’s been used to treat various disorders, including mental health and substance use disorders. The goals of CBT for addiction include:

– Learning to recognize one’s distortions in thinking that create problems and then reevaluate them in light of reality

– Facing one’s fears instead of avoiding them

– Gaining a better understanding of the behaviors and motivations of others

– Learning to calm one’s mind and body

– Learning to develop a greater sense of confidence in one’s abilities

– Using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations and prevent relapse

– Using role-playing to prepare for potentially stressful or problematic interactions with others

CBT also emphasizes teaching clients to be their own therapists. Through exercises practiced during sessions and homework (exercises outside of sessions), clients are taught to develop coping skills and how to change their thinking and negative emotions and behaviors.
