What Is IOP?
As clients get acclimated to the treatment process, it is understandable that their needs will evolve over time. With so many kinds of addictions out there, some people may need around-the-clock care and attention, while others simply need an outlet to process the many emotions and traumas that addiction involves. This is why many rehab facilities will have a variety of levels of care that give patients the opportunity to sequentially adjust to living a sober lifestyle. For those still in need of comprehensive care and flexibility, Legacy Healing Center Fort Lauderdale offers one of the best intensive outpatient programs in Florida. Read on to learn more about this effective treatment option and how it can benefit your sober journey.
IOP is the acronym for our Intensive Outpatient program. Patients in an IOP are likely still in need of somewhat intensive addiction care without needing around-the-clock monitoring. With this flexibility, they are able to begin reacclimating to everyday life while maintaining their newfound sobriety.
There are a number of objectives for IOP addiction treatment, including:
- – Positive behavioral changes.
- – Achieving and maintaining abstinence from drugs and alcohol.
- – Development of agency and accountability for one’s actions.
- – Addressing psychosocial issues that could be playing a part in the addiction in question, including housing, employment, and probation requirements.
- – Promoting hobbies that support a sober lifestyle.
A major component of this program is the flexibility patients obtain from the more relaxed schedule. Legacy Healing understands how difficult the transition to a sober lifestyle can be, especially after years of relying on the presence of an addictive substance. Our IOP allows recovering individuals to continue developing throughout the recovery process while reestablishing themselves to their personal commitments. Whether that is with a job, their studies, or their families, patients can once again begin to show up for those that depend on them while simultaneously showing up for themselves in treatment.
How Does IOP Work?
These programs will focus on providing the same in-depth care while giving patients the opportunity to maintain their commitments outside of our facility. Patients participate in a variety of programs and services, including group therapy, one-on-one sessions, life-skills courses, and support groups that will evaluate the addiction in question, what may have brought them about, and how to healthily manage them upon completion.
Group therapy is an especially important component of our intensive outpatient program in Florida. Group settings allow participants to develop their communication skills, get acclimated to socializing without being intoxicated, develop a sense of discipline and structure, and provide support to their peers. Other services offered include case and medication management, vocational training, and psychiatric screenings. These services are in place to remind clients of our commitment to their wellness and success.
How Long Is IOP Treatment?
The length of IOP treatment will ultimately depend on each individual patient’s needs and schedule outside of rehab. Generally speaking, our IOP Fort Lauderdale curriculum will consist of 9 or more hours of treatment in the span of 3 to 5 days per week.
In total, treatment should last roughly 90 days and can commence from as few as 6 hours a week to as many as 30. Typically, a patient in this program has already undergone other levels of addiction treatment or simply requires less intensive care than the other options we provide.
Even though 90 days is the standard for this program, the actual duration can be adjusted depending on the individual’s needs, their support system, and the overall mental health status of the patient. For example, a client that excels at developing their skills and maintaining their sobriety may require fewer sessions, while someone that continues to relapse could either require more sessions or a higher level of care altogether.
