The Care Doesn’t End with Rehab
As exciting as it can be to successfully complete treatment at a rehabilitation facility, readjusting to everyday life comes with a slew of its own challenges. These can range from work-related issues to familial stress and, perhaps most importantly, the possible temptation to use again. This is why Legacy’s Pompano rehab offers aftercare programs, which are designed to aid patients in upholding their newfound sobriety while attending to personal responsibilities.
What Is an Aftercare Program?
This is a form of ongoing treatment that is available to people who have recently completed another program at a rehab center. They may have completed a stay at our Legacy Healing Detox or participated in our partial hospitalization program. Regardless, sobriety in itself is a major accomplishment, but we are still only human. This means that a person should always leave room for additional support.
A variety of services are available to provide such support, including:
- – 12-step facilitation therapy
- – Family support groups
- – Alumni meetings
- – Consistent therapy sessions that provide an outlet for patients to discuss their current state and well-being
There are many benefits that patients experience when they are a part of our aftercare programs. For instance, continued support can play a major role in reducing the risk of relapse. Being that long-term sobriety is ultimately the goal, working with a trained professional to create a relapse prevention plan is extremely important.
You will also be able to foster a relationship with a personal recovery coach. This is a person that will act as your source of guidance, motivation, and consistency. They don’t just want to see you succeed in sobriety but in life in general. They can also provide support as you navigate through your establishment in educational or professional realms. Finally, they can help you manage the possibly strained relationships that developed as a result of addiction. This is also when the family support groups mentioned above are especially useful.
Addiction can have an effect on more than just the person suffering from it. Giving family the space to express how this situation has affected them can be extremely beneficial to their own well-being as well as the relationship as a whole.
By the time you complete treatment, you will also have developed a relationship with your own personal recovery coach. This person will continue to provide support and guidance while you reacclimate to your everyday life. They will be there to help uphold the important lessons you have learned in rehab and assist in implementing any long-term recovery plans that you have decided to undertake. They can also provide direction towards navigating relationships with friends and family, as well as assisting with applying for schools or jobs. Most importantly, they will be a source of care and consistency, helping you stay connected to the lessons you have learned.
Some good soul-searching should be expected if you want to make the most of your aftercare experience. Facing one’s past and future can feel daunting, and this is why most addiction treatment programs place emphasis on taking things one day at a time.
How to Stay Sober After Rehab
A successful aftercare rehab program will help patients stay sober in a variety of ways. This, of course, happens through participating in mental health sessions and introspection, but that shouldn’t be where it ends. Legacy Healing Center prides itself on the incredible community of alumni that we have fostered over the years.
Some of the ways we help current and former patients stay connected include:
- – Ample support groups
- – Weekly meetings
- – Organized social outings
These group sessions give you the opportunity to learn from the similar lived experiences of your peers. Addiction can feel like an incredibly isolating experience, but group meetings can create an avenue for incredible insight into how this disease affects other people. You will also have the chance to share your own situation, gain clarity about things that may have been troubling you, or even just get good old support from a friend you have made. The opportunities may seem insignificant to some, but they will only hold as much power as we choose to give them.
Why Sober Fun Is Crucial to the Recovery Process
For the average person, there is only so much gloom and heavy feelings that they can take before they need a break. Being able to find joy in sober activities is a crucial component of healing from addiction. It reminds us that there is an entire world outside of the walls we have built. Sometimes we just need that extra push to help break them down.
We organize year-round activities that aim to engage former patients while developing our incredible community of alumni. Some examples of these events include:
- – Sporting events
- – Beach days
- – Picnics
We hope that no matter the kind of addiction you have dealt with, you can find comfort in the fact that we will do everything in our power to help you overcome it. Regardless of if it is your first time entering our facility, or even your third, you will be welcomed with open arms and the desire to see you succeed.
