What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
While acclimating to the treatment process, it is understandable that a patient’s needs will shift and evolve over time. This is a good thing, as it can signal that progress is being made. Having a sliding curriculum of care levels is crucial when dealing with the ever-changing scenarios that addiction can cause. Some patients will require around-the-clock care, while others may be more interested in returning to their obligations and loved ones sooner while still maintaining their own wellness. In the case of the latter, Legacy Healing Center’s intensive outpatient program in Florida will give these patients the opportunity to uphold their care while sequentially adjusting to their new sober lifestyle.
An intensive outpatient program refers to a highly structured, non-residential program that addresses the patient’s addiction and any co-occurring mental health disorders while allowing them to return home and attend to personal commitments.
There are certain objectives that are prioritized throughout the program, including:
- – Encouraging positive behavioral changes
- – The development of personal responsibility for one’s actions
- – Promoting healthy hobbies that reinforce a sober lifestyle
- – Addressing psychosocial issues, such as employment, housing, and legal obligations
- – Most importantly, achieving and maintaining sobriety
The flexibility of this program’s scheduling plays a large role in its beneficial nature. We understand the difficulty involved with adjusting to sober living, especially for a person that has heavily relied on addictive substances in the past. Our IOP in Pompano Beach gives these patients the opportunity to continue the development within the recovery process while regaining their footing toward their personal obligations. Whether it is pursuing a degree, restarting employment, or rebuilding their relationships with loved ones, they can do all of these things while continuing to show up for themselves.
How Does Our Florida Intensive Outpatient Program Work?
Our program focuses on providing similar services to intensive programs like our PHP while allowing patients to return home at the end of the day and see to their personal responsibilities. These individuals will participate in a number of effective programs that seek to build a solid foundation of wellness and sobriety.
These programs can include:
- – One-on-one sessions
- – Group therapy
- – Life skills courses
- – Support groups
As the above options indicate, Legacy places a great emphasis on group settings. These programs allow participants to get used to socializing while sober, developing their communication skills, promoting discipline and respect, and enjoying the support and interactions of their peers. Additional services include vocational training, psychiatric screenings, and assistance with case and medication management. We hope that every individual that walks through our doors understands that these opportunities have been expertly crafted to give them the best possible chance at recovery.
How Long Does IOP Last?
An intensive outpatient program in Florida will typically consist of 9 or more hours of clinical care in the span of 3 to 5 days per week. In total, it will take approximately 90 days to complete, and depending on the needs of the patients, it will consist of 6 to 30 hours a week of additional programming. Patients enrolled in this program likely require less care than their more intensive counterparts, and it is not uncommon for a patient to have already undergone another treatment program prior.
While 90 days is considered the standard, how long it actually ends up taking will depend on a number of factors, including the support system, mental health status, and comprehensive needs of each individual patient. Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all experience, and our team of professionals understands this. For instance, a client that is clearly showing signs that they are still prone to relapse is likely to require more care than someone who is excelling during their therapy sessions.
