These Tampa Nar-Anon Meetings Provide Valuable Support for Families of Addicts
One of the most significant impacts addiction can have on people’s lives is the way it affects family members and loved ones. Addiction is often called a family disease since it can directly impact every member of a family. At Legacy Healing Center, part of our addiction treatment programs is to help you understand how your addiction can affect your family members. We also help family members gain a better understanding of addiction, how they can best support a loved one coping with addiction, and how to support themselves as well. For many family members of addicts, attending Nar-Anon meetings provides a wonderful support system of people who can relate.
How Nar-Anon Helps Recovering Addicts Stay Sober
Although every person working through recovery is responsible for their own sobriety, when family members decide to attend a Nar-Anon meeting, they choose to help themselves and the person who is struggling with addiction.

During Nar-Anon meetings, family members will learn the following:
Communication is key
Sadly, many family members keep their emotions to themselves when it comes to the addiction of their loved ones. The reality is that it can be heartbreaking to watch that person go through drug detox or alcohol detox, or recovery programs and continuously wind up in the same place over and over again.
During Nar-Anon meetings, you will have the opportunity to learn that it’s okay to feel different emotions regarding addiction. Additionally, you will also learn other techniques that you can utilize when communicating with your loved one that is struggling with addiction.
Breaking the cycle of co-dependency
If you have a family member with a long-standing addiction, there is a greater likelihood that you will get caught up in co-dependency. When your life has revolved around the addiction of your loved one for any length of time, you simply forget how to live your life without the chaos of addiction. Nar-Anon will teach you how to make your own healthy choices.
Resist the urge to enable
Have you ever personally gone to get your loved one’s drug of choice just because you don’t want to see them suffer or hear them complain about not having it? Have you ever given your loved one money so they can purchase this drug? Have you ever made excuses for their behavior? If the answer is yes, then you have been enabling your loved one in one way or another. During Nar-Anon, you will learn what you can do to avoid enabling and give your family member a better chance of success.
Find Nar-Anon Meetings in Tampa
Once you’re ready to attend Nar-Anon meetings in Tampa, you must find one that makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Thankfully, there are numerous Nar-Anon meetings and other support group sessions for addiction around the Tampa area. It’s important to remember that although many of these meetings occur at a church, there is no direct affiliation between the group and that church, so there is no need to feel uncomfortable if you don’t practice that specific religion.
Here are some meetings that you should consider attending:
Christ the King Church
The meeting that takes place at Christ the King Catholic Church happens in the Mary Martha Center Building. This meeting revolves around the premise that family members of those struggling with a narcotics addiction should always be there for each other to support one another.
