Legacy Healing Center Blog

Why Watching Sports Without Alcohol Is Even More Fun

If you’ve ever been to a live sporting event in New York City, you know full well that it is filled with fun and excitement. However, numerous people are struggling with addiction that equates a sporting event like a hockey or football game with the opportunity to consume their substance of choice. When this happens, you’re less likely to pay attention to the game because your new focus will be to maintain your influence.

When you commit to getting into addiction treatment and remaining sober, you will soon find that games are much more fun when you aren’t distracted by your addiction. You are more likely to watch each play and potentially make memories that will last a lifetime.

Tips for Enjoying Your Favorite Sports Without Drugs or Alcohol

There are countless ways to enjoy your favorite sporting event without being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It’s important to remember that sporting venues serve alcohol, so if you feel apprehensive at any point during your recovery, you may want to opt to stay home and enjoy the game from the comfort of your own house.

However, if you have your heart set on going to a game, another recommendation is that you can plan to attend the game with a sober friend or family member. Their calming influence could help distract you from the fact that alcohol represents and focuses on the different aspects of the game.
