Have you ever wondered which celebrities are from New Jersey and are in recovery or addiction treatment? Here are a couple of well-known names:

Bruce Springsteen

Recently, it came to light that musical powerhouse Bruce Springsteen was arrested for driving while intoxicated in November 2020. This came as a shock to many of his fans because he was a person who maintained lifelong abstinence from drugs. Springsteen is a born and bred Jersey boy who grew up in Long Branch. His career features incredible songs such as “Born to Run,” “Glory Days,” and “Hungry Heart.” Although Springsteen has not openly talked about issues with alcohol, he has apologized to his fans and committed to focusing on healthy living.

Michael Douglas

It’s important to remember that addiction is a family disease. As a result, there is always the possibility that one family member’s addiction may impact every member of your family. This is the position that famed actor Michael Douglas finds himself in. Michael Douglas was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1944. As the son of famous parents, it only seemed normal that Douglas would flawlessly transition into the industry. While Douglas would earn fame in his own right, his son, Cameron, would suffer from his own battles with addiction. When Cameron was arrested and imprisoned due to his drug addiction, Douglas talked about his family’s experiences and his continued hopes of recovery and healing.

Dennis Rodman

During the late 1980s and 1990s, Dennis Rodman was a popular name in the sports industry. Born in Trenton in 1961, Rodman played with NBA teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Detroit Pistons. He would make his mark in other ways with his piercings and hair, which he would dye in different neon colors. Unfortunately, Rodman’s career was also marred by severe addiction issues primarily revolving around alcohol. He appeared on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” however, he ultimately returned to his drinking ways after the show was done. Although he has had relapses, Rodman has maintained that he is in recovery in recent years and wants to remain sober for the betterment of himself and his family.

Tara Reid

Tara Reid was born in Wyckoff, New Jersey, in 1975. She is known for acting in such films as “American Pie,” “Van Wilder,” and “Josie and the Pussycats.” While many people saw the blonde as an American sex symbol, there were more serious problems in the background. Reid has stated that she has had struggles associated with alcohol and would commit herself to a recovery program. Since then, she maintains that she has focused on a healthy lifestyle and stays away from the parties and activities that once presented so many problems in her life.

Whitney Houston

It’s important to remember that addiction can quickly become deadly without the right mentality and dedication to working through an addiction treatment program. Whitney Houston was a world-famous singer born in New Jersey with a vocal gift that gave chills to anyone who listened to her. Sadly, the fame that she acquired also gave her access to several drugs. While she certainly had periods of sobriety throughout her short life, much of her life revolved around her next opportunity to get high. Sadly, Houston succumbed to her disease in 2012 when she was found unresponsive in her bathtub due to an overdose. Unfortunately, Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, also dealt with her share of problems with addiction and would, herself, overdose in the same manner as her mother in 2015.
