These Philadelphia Nar-Anon Meetings Provide Valuable Support for Families of Addicts
Our recovery specialists receive phone calls every day from friends and family concerned about the addictive behavior of a loved one wanting to know where they can turn for support. These phone calls are typically filled with emotions and questions about what they can do to help the person in their life that is struggling with addiction. We also interact with family members that recognize they need support and community for themselves too.
At Legacy Healing, we strongly recommend that family members and friends attend support groups like Nar-Anon for several reasons. It’s important to remember that you too may have experienced some form of trauma while your loved one was in active addiction. Nar-Anon meetings are twelve-step programs designed specifically to support the families of addicts. They can help family members begin to process their trauma so they can heal and also learn how to better support their loved one.
If you decide to take advantage of one of the addiction treatment programs at Legacy Healing Center, we will offer you the opportunity to participate in family therapy. This type of counseling occurs in a neutral environment and is only scheduled when we feel as though our client is ready to take this step. Families will have the chance to interact with each other and begin to put the pieces of their relationship back together.

How Nar-Anon Helps Recovery Addicts Stay Sober
There are countless ways that Nar-Anon meetings can help both family members and the person struggling with addiction remain sober. Here are a few examples:
- Develop a better understanding of addiction
- Increase your system of support by interacting with others that attend your group
- Learn what resources and tools are available for both those struggling with addiction as well as friends and family members
Although it may feel intimidating walking into a Nar-Anon meeting for the first time, you can count on the fact that the people in that group have an intimate understanding of how you feel when you walk through the door. Keep in mind that there are many Nar-Anon meetings in and around the Philadelphia area, so if one doesn’t meet your expectations, you can always try another one.
