Go Hiking & Explore These Trails

Exploring the great outdoors is an excellent way to clear your mind at the end of a long day or on the weekends. Although New York City is primarily filled with monstrous skyscrapers, there are a number of hiking trails that are a short drive away from the city. Whether you decide to explore these trails on your own or you would like to make a day out of hiking with your friends or family members, here are a couple of suggestions of places that you can visit.

Forest Park

Located just outside the center of New York City is Forest Park. As its name indicates, this site is filled with a mix of hiking trails and wind through a forest of large thick trees. The park is open to the public seven days a week.

Go Biking & Running Along These Trails

When you are working through an addiction treatment program, it’s strongly recommended that you take the time to develop a workout routine. Keep in mind that we can set you up with one of our personal trainers during your time at Legacy.

Central Park

Central Park is known throughout the world for its beauty. As such, it has become a go-to place for runners and bikers in New York City. When you are biking or running through Central Park, you will likely not see the same thing twice. This park is always filled with either interesting sights or people. There are certain sections of the park that are specifically dedicated to runners or bikers so you never have to worry about feeling unsafe during your run. The park is also filled with lights giving you the flexibility to go for a run at almost any time of day.

High Line Park

The High Line is a public park on the west side of Manhattan that’s built on a historic elevated rail line.  Once destined to be demolished, the High Line was repurposed to become a unique outdoor community space.  The High Line is a great place to walk, but it’s much more than just a park.  You can walk through gardens, take in art, see various performances, duck into one of the many restaurants that border the park, and enjoy some of the best views of New York City from your elevated perspective on the High Line.

Go Golfing With a Sober Companion

Golf is known as a relaxing sport and a great way to stay active. It’s important to remember, however, that the golf course can bring with it certain temptations due to the fact that many golf courses serve alcohol. If you still don’t feel 100% comfortable in your sobriety yet, a good rule of thumb would be to bring a sober friend or family member with you. He or she can help you to remain focused on your goals and may help you to enjoy the game more. Are you looking for great golf courses to visit around the area? Here are a couple of suggestions:

Premier Indoor Golf

Who says that you can only play golf outside? Premier Indoor Golf gives guests a unique experience in the sense that they have set up a virtual golf course that allows you to practice your skills regardless of the weather. Do you want to fine-tune your golf skills? Set up a lesson with a member of their experienced staff.

The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers

If you prefer to get some fresh air while you enjoy a round of golf, The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers is an excellent place to go. One of the great features about this location is the fact that it is open seven days a week starting at 6:30 in the morning and remains open until midnight. You will need to make a reservation for this location which can be done either online or by calling in.
