The Legacy Healing Center team understands the stress and embarrassment associated with opioid addiction. In numerous cases, our staff has dealt with the consequences of addiction, or they’ve had someone who has gone through similar experiences. We work with you personally to develop a treatment plan that will help you recover, but also help you achieve lifelong sobriety.

History of Opioid Addiction

Although the affects of opioid addiction didn’t really come to light until the late 1900’s, opioids have been available in some way, shape, or form for hundreds of years. For example, morphine was used in abundance by Civil War doctors who were eager to keep up on the amount injuries during battle. It wasn’t until the 1900’s that the addictive qualities of opioids became evident but by that point the epidemic was already taking shape.

How to Detox From Opioids

Detox is an important component of your recovery. Within hours (or sometimes days) from the time you consume your last opioid of choice, you will begin to experience physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms. Examples of physical withdrawal symptoms including sweating, nausea, and an increased heart rate. Emotional effects usually include an uptick in your anxiety. These symptoms make it difficult, if not impossible, to care for yourself during this time which is what makes our detox program extremely valuable.
