Opioid Rehab

Opioid Epidemic

When you think of the word “epidemic”, what comes to your mind? More than likely, the first thing that pops into your head is the image of a mass amount of people being sick as a result of infectious disease and you probably do not associate the word with addiction.

Unfortunately, over recent years, there has been a noticeable upswing in people who suffer from opioid addiction which is now referred to as an “opioid epidemic”. The professionals at the Legacy Healing Center are well-versed in the horrible consequences of struggling with this type of addiction. We commit ourselves to work personally with each patient and guide them on their road to recovery.

History of Opioid Addiction

You may be surprised to learn that opioids have been in existence in some way, shape, or form since ancient times. Opium first came to the United States in the 1770s and over the course of the next 100 years became known as a way to relieve pain. The drug was actually used on thousands of Civil War soldiers on both sides of the battle as a way to reduce pain while their injuries were treated on the battlefield. Unbeknownst to doctors of that time, physicians inadvertently sent home numerous soldiers with an addiction to opioids.

As more information developed regarding the addictive nature of opioids, doctors became more hesitant to prescribe them in the 1970s. However, by the 1980s and 1990s, the restrictions on doctors began to decrease and the uptick in addiction began again. Today, there are numerous people all over the country that pass away as a result of an opioid overdose either from obtaining the drug from their doctor or on the street.

How to Detox from Opioids

Many people mistakenly believe that it is easy to detox from opioids and they opt to try to undergo the process by themselves. The reality is that this is an extremely dangerous approach to take. Detox from opioids, other drugs, and even alcohol should never be done unless you are under the care of a trained medical provider.

The withdrawal side effects as a result of opioid detox can be severe and, in some cases, potentially deadly which makes it increasingly important that you never try to detox by yourself.

How Long Does Rehab Last?

There are a few aspects that should factor into your stay at our luxury rehab facility. First and foremost, it’s important to think about the severity and the length of your addiction. If you have been struggling with long-term addiction, it would benefit you to take part in our inpatient 90-day program. This helps you to break the cycle of addiction and really focus on your recovery. If you cannot take part in a 90-day program, we also offer inpatient programs that range between 30 and 60 days.

We do understand, however, that many of our patients may have other responsibilities that they need to see to while they are receiving treatment. Patients in this position would benefit from our outpatient program. Similar to our inpatient program, this form of treatment can last anywhere between 30 and 90 days. While you are enrolled, you will come to our facility at designated times and days to receive care.
