What is Rehab Like for Alcohol and Drugs?
If you or a loved one are considering seeking treatment at a Behavioral Health Center such as Legacy Healing Center serving Jupiter Florida, you probably have a lot of questions: What are these programs like? How long will you be there? Will you be comfortable? Deciding to seek treatment is a big step and can be fraught with a lot of fear and anxiety. Fortunately, understanding more about what happens in an inpatient behavioral health center can put your mind at ease and help you to feel empowered to move forward with your decision to turn your life around.
What Do You Do During Rehab?
We understand that walking through our doors on day one can be extremely challenging. We are here to help you prepare for that day, to help you get settled in once you arrive and to make sure you are set you up for success on the road to recovery.
For most people, the first step in the treatment process will be a detoxification phase. At Legacy, our medical detox program is clinically supervised 24/7 so that you can go through the process as safely and comfortably as possible. You will be given medications to help mitigate your withdrawal symptoms. We also have an on-site chef to provide you with high quality, nutrient-dense, organic food and cold-pressed juices to help facilitate the cleansing process and replace vital nutrients that are often deficient in people who’ve been struggling with addiction. Trying to go through withdrawal on your own, without the help of medical assistance can be extremely dangerous, even life-threatening. For that reason, it is important to choose a program that provides you with a high degree of support during this phase.
Once you’ve completed detox the deeper work can begin. Our residential program, called Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides an intensive, highly structured, comprehensive treatment approach and is designed to treat the deeper root causes of addictive behaviors. It includes a minimum of 25 hours of clinical treatment per week, community housing in our beautiful residential setting, scheduled evening programs designed to support recovery, 12 step meetings, and positive relationship building for a sober future.
What Does the Average Day Look Like While in Rehab?
The highly structured schedule of daily life in Legacy’s residential program helps to minimize stress and uncertainty among residents and allows for the safest, most supportive environment for healing and recovery. Your only job is to stay focused on your dedication to the process, we take care of the rest!
During your 30, 60, or 90-day program, you will live in one of our behavioral health centers located in Margate, Pompano Beach, and Delray Beach, Florida. The program is structured to help you develop new routines and healthy habits that are intended to continue in your daily life post-rehab.
You will start your day by rising early in your private or shared room where you’ll dress and wash up for breakfast. Breakfast will be prepared by our in-house chef with high-quality nutrient-dense ingredients to fuel your recovery and give you energy and focus for the day.
After breakfast, you’ll spend your day participating in various therapies and holistic healing programs based on your individualized treatment plan. A healthy lunch will be served mid-day and by the end of the day, you’ll be ready to enjoy dinner and retire to your room to get a good night’s rest.
What Type of Therapy Happens at Rehab?
Legacy Healing Center offers three main types of therapy, Group Therapy, One-on-One Therapy, and Family Therapy.
Group Therapy
Group therapy gives you the opportunity to share your experience of addiction, and the traumas that may have led you to it, with other people who can relate. You will also learn from others’ experiences and share insights and perspectives. Simply knowing that other people are experiencing the same feelings as you can be an incredibly healing early step in the recovery process. Group therapy also helps patients to learn how to build social skills, trust, and foster support in a sober setting amongst members of our community.
One-on-One Therapy
Individual therapy sessions give you the opportunity to work with highly skilled and specialized behavioral health experts who understand the psychology of addiction and trauma. The private therapeutic space gives you the opportunity to open up and explore more delicate areas of your life. Our therapists are experts in helping patients work through and heal past trauma, gain motivation, learn coping skills, change behaviors, and shift perspectives in ways that support your long-term healing and recovery.
Family Therapy
At Legacy Healing Center we are very proud of our family therapy program. It’s one of the many programs that set us apart from the crowd and contributes to our excellent success rates. The reasons for the significance of family therapy are multifaceted. Firstly, family trauma is often a major contributing factor that leads a person to addictive behaviors in the first place. Helping our patients to work through past trauma and difficult family dynamics is part of how we heal the root causes of addiction and facilitate fundamental and lasting changes. Second, once addiction takes hold, it affects all areas of life and almost invariably has a negative impact on family relationships. Part of the rehabilitation and recovery process is to help our patients heal the wounds their substance abuse may have inflicted upon their family members. And lastly, because family members can be an invaluable source of long-term recovery support, it is vital that they get involved in the treatment process. The strength of family members can provide incredible support in the life of a recovering addict. Relatives also often need help understanding how their actions can inadvertently contribute to negative behaviors and threaten the sobriety of their recovering family member.
