Opioid Rehab for King of Prussia, PA Residents

Opioid Epidemic

Although opioids have been in existence for years before the opioid epidemic, the crisis surrounding the drug took off in the 1990s. During this time, pharmaceutical companies insisted to the medical community that opioids could and should be used to help relieve chronic pain and that the possibility of developing an addiction to this type of medication was low.

The reality, however, was much different. Although opioids indeed did help to reduce chronic pain, the disastrous effects of the increase in patients developing an addiction to this type of medication are undeniable.

If you are struggling with an addiction to opioids, you can rest assured that you are not alone. The Legacy Healing Center team in South Florida specializes in helping our clients to overcome their addiction to opioids. We work individually with each client to help them develop a treatment plan that addresses their addiction and helps them grow a healthy and sober way of living.

History of Opioid Addiction

Opium has been in existence in some way, shape, or form for thousands of years. In fact, it wasn’t uncommon for nobility or higher social classes to smoke opium as a recreational activity. It was until the American Civil War that the medical community really began to notice the possible medicinal impact that opioids could have. Civil War doctors began to use opium to reduce the pain of injured soldiers on the battle and give them more time to give each soldier the medical attention he needed. Unbeknownst to them, Civil War doctors likely sent home many soldiers with an addiction to opioids.

How to Detox From Opioids

Detoxing from opioids can be a challenging process. When you have an addiction to opioids, it’s never advisable that you stop taking them at any given time. When you are ready to detox, we always recommend that you first enroll in our detox program before you begin your treatment program. Withdrawal symptoms can vary, which makes them impossible to predict. However, it’s not uncommon for a person going through withdrawal to suffer from shakiness, increased anxiety, and feeling like they have a terrible case of the flu.

What Opioid Rehab Is Like?

Your time at our treatment facility will primarily focus on taking part in various forms of therapy. Group therapy, individual therapy, behavioral therapy, and family therapy are all examples of counseling that you will experience during the course of your treatment.

When you aren’t participating in therapy, you can relax and enjoy the luxurious amenities our facility offers. If you decide to go through our inpatient program, you will benefit from knowing that you have a warm bed to sleep in and access to delicious food. Additionally, patients can enjoy a workout with one of our personal trainers or enjoy a relaxing massage.

How Long Does Rehab Last?

One of the critical decisions you will need to make when you come to Legacy is regarding your treatment plan’s length. We realize that each of our clients’ needs is unique, which is why we allow them to choose between a 30, 60, or 90-day program. It would help if you considered several things when you are finalizing your treatment plan, which is why we recommend that you hold off on making this decision until you can speak to a member of our team.
