How are Faith-Based Rehabs Different?

At Legacy Healing Center Manhattan, we understand that redeveloping your spiritual connection with God is an essential part of recovery for many of our clients. We work personally with you to establish a treatment plan that helps you begin to put your relationship with God back together. Regardless of whether you decide to remain with us on campus through our inpatient program or you opt to participate in one of our outpatient programs, you will still participate in specific forms of therapy that will help you better understand what led you down the path of addiction.

Examples of the types of counseling that you will participate in include group therapy, family therapy, behavioral therapy, and individual therapy. One of our intake specialists will provide you with more information about any one of these forms of treatment.

What Does the Bible Say About Addiction?

Although the first Bible was not produced until the 1600s, the text found in the traditional Bible today has been a source of guidance and spiritual understanding for Christians all over the world. Whether you prefer to read the Old Testament or are more into the New Testament, there are words of wisdom and caution related to addiction.

Those who prefer reading the Old Testament can find insight by turning to Proverbs 20:1, which states, “Wine a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise”. The same premise would hold when it comes to an addiction to drugs as well.

However, there is hope when it comes to addiction regardless of your favorite book of the Bible. One of the most critical passages in the Bible revolved around when Jesus Christ provided His followers with the words of what is known today as the prayer the “Our Father.” For a person struggling with addiction, the most meaningful part of the prayer is likely found in Matthew 6:13, which states, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”. When you trust in God, His power, and His forgiveness, you can rest assured that He will always lead you down the right path.

Sober Friendly Attractions Near Manhattan

Manhattan is filled with an exciting and diverse selection of attractions for you to visit. Although we always recommend that you first find a regular 12-step meeting for you to attend once you return home after treatment at Legacy in South Florida, we encourage you to explore some of the sober friendly attractions located in and around Manhattan. Many of these venues can also help you develop spiritually, which will only help your overall recovery. Here are some examples of places to visit:

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is one of the most well-known religious attractions in Manhattan. This cathedral was first erected in 1879 and designed in a neo-gothic fashion. St. Patrick’s falls under the Archdiocese of New York, led by Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, who has grown to become a vocal leader in the Catholic community. You can attend Catholic mass at St. Patrick’s nearly every day, or you can stop in to enjoy and explore the different unique aspects of the church.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is located on 5th Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets, New York City, NY 10022.

Trinity Church

Trinity Church is another historic church that has undoubtedly earned its place in the history of Manhattan. Although the original church was destroyed by the Great New York City Fire of 1776, the church’s congregants have continued to remain steadfast in their faith by continuing to rebuild or renovate the church as needed. In fact, the second Trinity Church, which was built in 1788, saw notable visitors, including President George Washington and Alexander Hamilton. Unfortunately, this building was ultimately torn down as a result of structural weakness. Today, Trinity Church is open every day between 7 AM and 6 PM for mass or private worship.

You can visit Trinity Church on Broadway at Wall Street, New York City, NJ 10006.

Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton

Did you know that the first American Catholic saint was actually born in Manhattan? St. Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton grew up in the turbulent times of the American Revolution. Although St. Elizabeth was originally a Protestant, she felt another calling in the months and years after her husband passed away. Ultimately, St. Elizabeth would go on to be the founder of the Sisters of Charity and the creator of the Catholic parochial school system within the United States.

The Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton is located at 7 State Street between Pearl and Water Streets, New York City, NY 10004.
