What Do You Do During Rehab?

If you have never attended a treatment program before, the idea of doing so may seem scary now. A common question we receive among prospective clients is what takes place while at our facilities in South Florida.

What Does the Average Day in Rehab Look Like?

It’s important to point out that the average day at Legacy Healing Center looks different for each client because we work personally to develop your treatment plan. Although your plan may be slightly different from another client, certain features will be the same. For example, if you decide to take part in our inpatient program, you will eat, recover, and sleep at our treatment facility for a set number of days. In contrast, if you enroll in our outpatient program, you will come to Legacy at specific times on certain days for treatment. Remember, you can always adjust your treatment plan at any time to better cater to your recovery goals.

What Type of Therapy Happens at Rehab?

Therapy will be a crucial aspect of any treatment plan. You can expect to participate in group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, and behavioral therapy. Regardless of your treatment plan, you will likely participate in each of these forms of treatment at different times during your program. One of our intake specialists can provide you with more information regarding these forms of treatment.

Group Therapy

Our group therapy sessions generally follow the model of a 12-step meeting. Open and honest communication between clients takes a central role during group therapy because each person has the chance to share their thoughts and feelings associated with a specific topic. Keep in mind, during these meetings. There may be certain aspects you hear that you don’t necessarily like or agree with.

It’s critical that you keep an open mind because you may hear something that you may have never thought about in the past that could help you going forward. Group therapy is also an excellent chance of making connections and building your system of support.

One-on-One Therapy

Individual therapy is another essential component of your recovery. Understandably, there are certain aspects of your life that you may not yet feel comfortable speaking about openly. In situations like this, one on one therapy can be incredibly beneficial. During these sessions, you will talk personally with one of our counselors about the events in your life that may have led you down the path of addiction. Additionally, you can discuss how you feel that you are progressing in your treatment plan. If you feel as though you need to make any adjustments to your plan, we can help you do that during these meetings.

Sober Friendly Attractions Near Manhattan

Manhattan is known as a section of New York that seemingly never sleeps. There is always something to do in the area. The issue is that people in recovery often face when they return home to Manhattan. However, there is still the temptation to participate in something that may lead them to relapse. A good rule of thumb is to ensure that you are taking part in healthy routines and activities before deciding to explore Manhattan. Making the time to attend 12-step meetings should always be a leading priority. Once you feel comfortable, you can turn your attention to exploring different sober friendly attractions in Manhattan. Some of our favorite venues to visit include:

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most iconic places to visit in Manhattan. Although the Statue of Liberty is technically located on its own island, named Liberty Island, the Statue of Liberty has stood proudly across Manhattan’s skyline since 1886. There are daily tours of Liberty Island as well as Ellis Island, which is located a boat ride away. The ferry to the Statue of Liberty runs everyday between 8:30 AM and 4:15 PM.

You can visit the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, New York, New York 10004.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

If you love art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must-see attraction in Manhattan. The museum initially opened in 1880, and although it is not considered Manhattan’s oldest museum, it is one of the largest. The collections at the museum incorporate nearly 5,000 years of art history, including pieces from Ancient Egypt, Europe as well as classic American pieces. The museum is open seven days a week between 10 AM and 5:30 PM. If you plan to visit on Friday or Saturday, hours are extended until 9 PM.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located at 1000 5th Avenue, New York, New York 10028.

Rockefeller Center

Are you planning to explore Manhattan around the holidays? If so, you should make time to visit the Rockefeller Center. Rockefeller Center takes centerstage shortly after Thanksgiving with the lighting of the beautiful Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. If you can’t make it to see the tree lighting in person, you can visit the site any time before the new year or take a skate around the lower ice-skating rink.

Rockefeller Center is located at 45 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, New York 10111.
