AA and NA Meetings in Miami

From the moment that you make a commitment to sobriety, it’s essential that you also make a commitment to attending AA or NA meetings. If you opt to go through the inpatient or outpatient program at the Legacy Healing Center, you will experience group meetings on a routine basis. Although the meetings may be uncomfortable at first, they play a critical part in your overall recovery

Are you struggling with addiction and looking for answers?  Call 888.534.2295 today to speak with one of our friendly intake specialists.

The majority of meetings in the Miami area are set up in a similar way to the ones that you experience at the Legacy Healing Center. It’s important to note that there are two types of 12-step meetings. The first is an open meeting. Any person that is or has struggled with addiction, a family member, or friend of a person with addiction or someone that is interested in learning about addiction can attend this type of meeting.

A closed meeting, on the other hand, is restricted specifically to a person that is combatting addiction.  Closed meetings provide their own value to attendees because newcomers may feel more comfortable sharing their experiences without feeling awkward or embarrassed.

If you have never attended a meeting before, you may feel apprehensive as to what you can expect. First and foremost, it’s important to remember to take a deep breath and keep in mind that when you walk into a meeting, you are walking into a room with men and women who have the same addiction issues that you do. There is no requirement that you share during a meeting. In fact, while you are attending your first few meetings, it may be beneficial for you to just listen to the stories of the other attendees.

When you are looking for a meeting to attend, you should always keep an eye out for the format of a meeting. For example, if you notice a meeting that is indicated as “various” it means that the meeting incorporates open discussion about different 12-step topics as well as speak about different literature that is associated with recovery.

It’s also important to note that there are certain rules that are followed throughout each meeting to ensure that every person that attends has the time to share and speak. For instance, it’s asked that you only share your thoughts on a topic for a set amount of time. Additionally, it’s requested that you do not address a person directly while they are speaking, rather you allow that person to finish, and then you can address your thoughts to the general group about the topic. If you are new to the meeting format, it’s encouraged that you touch base with the person that is chairing the meetings so you understand the ins and outs of the format.

Narcotics Anonymous Meetings in Miami

St. Matthews Church

One of the great things about NA meetings is the fact that you can attend a meeting any day of the week at nearly any time of day. A popular meeting location in the Miami area is St. Matthews Church. The church is host to numerous meetings throughout the week including Tuesdays at 12 PM and Thursday at 5:15 PM. If you are interested in developing more spiritually, attending a meeting that is in a church setting can help to inspire you to grow and understand more about your faith while still receiving the recovery guidance that you need.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings in Miami

Similar to NA meetings, an AA meeting is usually available almost around the clock, seven days a week. Due to the fact that liquor stores are open at all hours of the day, finding a meeting at any point becomes critical for any person that is working on recovery.

The Friendship Club II

The Friendship Club II is home to 19 AA meetings throughout the week including Friday mornings at 9 AM. Their Friday morning meeting is labeled as a “Back to Basics” meeting which is an open discussion meeting about the steps. This style meeting is ideal for a person who is just starting out on their recovery journey because it will help them gather a better understanding of the steps that he or she needs to take to achieve long-term sobriety. This location also provides wheelchair access as well as the option for Zoom meetings.
