Sober Friendly Businesses and Things to Do in Tampa

What is There to Do in Tampa That Doesn’t Involve Alcohol or Drugs?

One of the common themes that we find among rehab attendees is the fact that, often, they feel lost about how they feel about themselves. When you are struggling to combat active addiction, it is understandable that you may lose touch with your sense of likes and dislikes.

Something that we always encourage among our patients is to take advantage of the beautiful outdoor locations and sober friendly places to visit near you. We strongly recommend that you prioritize your recovery by attending rehab and AA or NA meetings, but it is also important that you make time to have fun by exploring the sober friendly attractions around Tampa.

Recovery Friendly Things to Do in Tampa

There are countless recovery friendly places to visit in Tampa. Whether you enjoy history and museums or exercise and the outdoors, Tampa offers something for everyone.

The Tampa Bay History Center

The Tampa Bay History Center is one of the most popular attractions in Tampa. The three-floor center brings history to life with exhibitions on pirates that were common to the area centuries ago as well as displays about the hardworking Cuban cigar rollers that helped to shape Tampa’s development.  Visitors typically spend between two and three hours at this venue.

Glazer Children’s Museum

Spending time with your family or a group of friends that help to support your recovery is always recommended. If you are planning a day out with children, Glazer Children’s Museum is an excellent place to visit. One of the best features of the children’s museum is that you’re not likely to see the same attraction twice. The museum does an excellent job making sure that the kid-friendly exhibits are changed on a regular basis so that little one can enjoy multiple visits. You can visit the museum year-round with the exception of a few holidays.

Lettuce Lake Park

Physical exercise is something that we always encourage as you go through the different phases of your recovery. Tampa is home to a great array of hiking trails. If you have never gone hiking before or you are curious to try it, you should start off at Lettuce Lake Park. This park is home to a variety of low mileage trails as well as bird watching points. If you need to take a break from your hiking adventure, you can always rent a canoe and enjoy the open water. Lettuce Lake Park is open throughout the year but at different times during each season.

If you are in the mood to explore a longer trail, you should make time to visit McKay Bay Nature Park Trail. This park has different trail lengths scattered throughout its 38-acre property. McKay Bay Nature Park is open from sunrise to sunset and has a national avian sanctuary and wildlife observation area.

Flatwoods Conservation Park

If you prefer to bike or run, Flatwoods Conservation Park is certainly a place that you should plan to visit. The park is open throughout the year as early as 7 AM so you can always get in an early morning workout. The property is enormous and has both a paved trail and a grass trail. If you prefer to go for a run with your furry friend, you can bring him or her along as long as they remain on a leash.

Al Lopez Park

Al Lopez Park is another park that’s popular amongst runners and bikers. The park encompasses 132 acres and mainly features a path that you can use for running or biking along a nature trail.
