History of Opioid Addiction
Many people are surprised to learn that opioids have been used in various forms for thousands of years. In fact, it was only a few hundred years ago that opioids were used in public in a recreational setting. Opioids first came to the United States when the country was first settled; however, they came to extensive use when used primarily for medicinal purposes during the Civil War. There were so many wounded men on the battlefield that doctors were unable to keep up. Therefore, opioids were used to keep injured soldiers comfortable until a doctor could see to them.
It wasn’t until much later that the addictive qualities of opioids took center stage. This delay ultimately led to what is known as the opioid epidemic that has devastated the U.S. over the last 30 years.

How to Detox From Opioids
It’s critical not to overlook the importance of completely detoxing from the effects of opioids before you begin treatment. Withdrawing from opioids can be dangerous, however, and it is not something that you should never attempt unless you are under the care of a trained medical professional. Examples of withdrawal symptoms can vary based on the severity of your addiction. Still, it is not uncommon for a person to experience extreme flu-like symptoms and nausea, shakiness, and increased anxiety.
Our detox program will provide you with the hands-on attention you need to make it through the withdrawal process so that you can begin to focus on your recovery.
