Outpatient vs. Inpatient Addiction Treatment

Outpatient addiction treatment is for people who cannot be away from their personal and professional responsibilities for an extended time but still want access to treatments, medical and psychiatric care, and a sober community. You have the option to live outside the facility so you can take care of your responsibilities at home.

In inpatient rehab, you live inside the treatment facility for a set amount of time and have structured days full of treatment like groups and individual therapy. This program is for people who need to change their surroundings, get away from triggers and enablers, and truly focus on their own recovery without the distractions of stress and temptations.

Types of Outpatient Addiction Treatment: PHP, IOP, OP

At Legacy Healing, we have choices for our patients for which type of outpatient treatment will work best: the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and the Outpatient Program (OP).

The PHP is a day/night program that takes place six days a week. You will live in our sober facility during that time and take part in a highly structured and intensive program with a minimum of 25 hours a week of clinical treatment. The PHP is a supportive place to begin your treatment and is best for people who are more likely to relapse, people who do not have enough support at home, and people resistant to treatment.

The IOP is a more flexible outpatient program than the PHP and usually comes after PHP or another form of inpatient rehab. You have the option of living at home or inside our sober community housing, and you will receive a minimum of nine hours of clinical treatment each week.

Treatment will be scheduled around your life, so you can begin to work or go to school again. We recognize that many people cannot leave their family or job for a long time, so the IOP supports you as you use your new recovery skills to get back out into the world.

The traditional OP is a continuation of the IOP but with just one hour a week of scheduled therapy and the option of attending recovery activities and groups.

We believe that “once a patient, always a patient,” so if you complete your IOP, return home and phase out treatment, but go through a difficult time in the future, we will still be here for you. You will never be alone in your recovery. You will only have to reach out to us, and we can set you up with a therapist appointment or get you into a group as soon as possible.
